Responding to the proposed "5,000 daily illegal border crossing threshold" proposed in the newly unveiled Senate border bill, Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, pushed back asking, "When did we become a country of no laws? And why can't Congress, why can't we abide by the laws?"
Speaking to guest host Rob Astorino, Williams suggested that the United States return to a "stay in Mexico" policy which the congressman claimed would reduce illegal border crossings by 70%. "The idea of letting 5,000 freebies come in here every single day is unbelievable when you've got people waiting in line for years to become citizens. It really upsets me," he said during an appearance on Newsmax's "The Chris Salcedo Show."
While the Congress is set to vote on articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Williams encouraged his colleagues to go back and consider the House Bill H.R.2, called the "Secure the Border Act of 2023."
"I'm afraid there's a lot of our friends that are just not serious about [not] letting the bad guys in," he said. "These people are coming over here not to get work, these people are coming over here to destroy America, and they're not going back."
As the United States surpassed over 3 million illegal entries last year, Williams emphasized that just one is "wrong" and said that people must come through at ports of entry and not in between.
"We're a land of laws, and we're going to rule by the laws," he said. "But this whole thing is out of whack."
