Ric Grenell to Newsmax: 'About Time' Mayorkas Is Impeached

By    |   Sunday, 28 January 2024 11:09 AM EST

Ric Grenell, a national intelligence director and ambassador under former President Donald Trump, said Sunday on Newsmax that House Republicans have released articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

"My first thoughts are, it's about time," Grenell said on Newsmax's "Sunday Report." "We've seen 250,000 to 300,000 individuals illegally crossing the border."

Republicans and conservatives have always welcomed a legal process to allow migrants to come to the United States, Grenell added.

"We're very generous in the United States," he said. "We give almost a million people a year citizenship, but there's a process to apply. You can't just break the law and come in."

However, Grenell said Democrats have been pushing for sanctuary cities for immigrants, which allow them to break federal immigration laws.

"It's about time that we hold the individuals responsible who are cutting razor wire and allowing this open border and allowing individuals to break the law with immunity. We cannot allow that to continue to happen," Grenell said. "No country in the world allows people to break immigration laws so blatantly like the United States under Joe Biden."

Grenell also discussed the ongoing conflict with Iran, where tensions are growing over attacks from Iranian-backed Houthis, and after Biden has said the United States is not at war with Iran.

"Iran thinks that we're at war with them because they've got all these proxies that they're funding," said Grenell. "It's unbelievable how bad it's gotten under Joe Biden."

There were multiple peace accords in place under Trump, he added, but now, the United States is under attack, and "the Biden administration has done very little."

The Trump administration, however, isolated Iran, said Grenell.

"We weren't giving them money," he said. "We weren't allowing them to sell their oil. But the Biden team came in and allowed the sanctions relief.

"The Iranians have received over $100 billion, and look what's happening. Not only did they launch a war, they are funding the proxies. They're working towards their nuclear weapon [and] they just put satellites into space … they are now launching into all of the extra things that they're able to do because they're flush with cash, thanks to Joe Biden."

It also "doesn't take a rocket scientist" to know that the Yemen-based Houthi terrorists are being funded by Iran, as they have sophisticated weaponry, said Grenell.

"They've duped the Biden team," he said of Iran. "The Biden team is led by a bunch of academics who don't understand reality and things are getting worse. We need to be able to send a strong message to Iran to isolate them."

In addition, "we need diplomacy," but Secretary of State Antony Blinken is "MIA," said Grenell, adding that "we don't have any diplomatic peaceful strategy like we did in the Trump administration."
