Retired U.S. Army Major Gen. Paul Vallely on Tuesday hailed President Donald Trump's support of Iranian protesters, calling the stance "a whole new avenue" for the White House.
In an interview on Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now," Vallely said "no president has been strong enough . . . to really stand up and tell it the way it should be, and it should be that we support the Iranian resistance."
"Now we have a coalition going on between Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the United States on some covert planning to support the resistance . . . in Iran which we didn't stand up and do several years ago, which we should have . . . So, we're on a whole new avenue here."

America's role does not have to be a military one, he added.
"[M]oral conviction to support them is very important to the Iranians," he said, adding, "Over 60 percent [of the population in Iran] is under 32 years old, and so the 20- and 30-year-olds really want to break out of this Islamic society as best they can so they have opportunities that they don't have now."
