House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's call for the House select committee investigating Benghazi to have an equal mix of Republican and Democratic lawmakers won't happen and shouldn't happen, says Seton Motley, founder of Less Government.
"Elections have consequences, and the way select committees are empaneled is the majority party has more members than the minority party," Motley told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"The 2010 and 2012 elections have consequences. The Republicans are in the majority, they get more members. The take-my-ball-and-go-home approach would be a little ridiculous.
"It's kind of like . . . a football team saying we know that we're the better team, so we're not going to play you," he said Tuesday.
Motley — whose Washington, D.C.-based non-profit is dedicated to "reducing the power of government and protecting the First Amendment'' — said it makes sense for Democrats to participate in the committee, not pull out as one congressman suggested.
"If the Republicans have nothing on [President Barack] Obama and [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton and whomever else on Benghazi and you were the Democrats, wouldn't you want to show up and make that case and demonstrate . . . they have nothing?" he asked.
"To pull out demonstrates weakness, not strength."
