Democrats will have to work a miracle if they expect to hold control of the House in the 2022 midterm elections, and three key Democrats are leaving office because they're seeing the results of "horrific progressive and liberal economic policy and the destruction that they've caused," Rep. Greg Murphy told Newsmax Tuesday.
"We talk about being woke," the North Carolina Republican said on Newsmax's "National Report." "I think the American people have now woken up to see what a disaster the liberal politics are doing to the economy."
Monday, Democrat Reps. Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania and David Price of North Carolina announced they will be retiring, and last week, House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth, D-Ky., announced his retirement.
"These guys are not dumb," said Murphy. "They're not stupid. They're seeing the handwriting on the wall and they're going to bail while they can because we pray that there is a red wave."
But if Republicans don't retake the House, Murphy said he fears the United States "is doomed forever."
"We have to get this country back to a reasonable balance," Murphy said. "We have to get it back to where the economy is actually good for Americans and not just for the Chinese."
Meanwhile, Murphy said he hopes the House Democrats don't meet the Halloween deadline President Joe Biden is seeking for passage of the $3.5 trillion spending bill, which remains under discussion with progressive and moderate House Democrats in meetings at the White House Tuesday.
"The moderate Democrats may actually care about this country," said Murphy. "The progressives literally want to tear the country apart."
Meanwhile, Murphy accused White House press secretary Jen Psaki of lying to the American public every day about what's going on in the administration.
"We're in the worst economic crisis and most of it is self-inflicted," said Murphy. "How they defend that is just fairy tales. It's simply unconscionable and you have to believe that politics is playing a role, and you must think ahead, knowing that midterms are on the way."
The congressman also discussed the close race for governor that is going on in Virginia and said the race is a "very good bellwether" of how middle America feels.
"They're seeing how these progressive policies are literally destroying the country," said Murphy. "For a governor of a state to say that parents don't matter in the education of their children is simply unconscionable ... America is truly waking up to the fact that government and the liberals want to control us and we can't stand for this, and I pray that the American people wake up and take that message to the ballot box."
