Mick Mulvaney, who has served the Trump administration as director of the Office of Management and Budget and acting White House chief of staff, said Thursday the “energy for” President Donald Trump is “very good with the Catholic community.”

In an interview on Newsmax TV’s “Spicer & Co,” Mulvaney asserted “if anything, it’s a little bit stronger than what we saw in 2016.”

“The energy for the president's very good with the Catholic community,” he said.

“In 2016, Evangelicals and Catholics didn't know President Trump very well,” Mulvaney noted. “That’s not his background…he didn’t come up through the religious wing of the [Republican] Party. So they were a little concerned about his bona fides… on pro-life.”

“Now after four years of a track record- they’re 100% solid with him on the policies,” he said.

Mulvaney also said Trump’s intent to sign a “Born Alive Executive Order” does “move the needle” for some pro-life voters.

“That was the president being authentic,” Mulvaney said of the move.

“I go back to the State of the Union speech in 2019,” he explained, saying Trump “tually gave as much attention to the life Issue as anything else during the speech because that's really what he was feeling. That’s when the president speaks authentically… you could sort of sense it. And I think that really resonates with voters.”

Mulvaney blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., accusing her of being “mean-spirited” for bringing up her Catholic faith to use against Trump.

“If you're going to go on TV and say ‘I’m Nancy Pelosi and I'm a devout Roman Catholic and I pray all the time’… you probably should follow the church a little bit,” he said, noting she is pro-choice.

“You should probably do it privately not publicly…. she's just like that. She's a mean spirited person.”
