Rep. Mike Kelly: 'In the Real World,' Iran Deal Would Never Work

By    |   Thursday, 16 July 2015 09:32 PM

The Iran nuclear deal has "absolutely" no chance of working "in the real world," Rep. Mike Kelly told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"We know who they are," the three-term Pennsylvania Republican, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, told "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner. "There's no end to what they do.

"'Death to Israel.' 'Death to America.' A group that would use any means to get to their ends, including lying to your face and saying it's OK because you're infidels.

"This is the Islamic State of terrorism, the biggest supporter of terrorism around the world," Kelly added. "Why we would sit down at the table and even begin a discussion with people who don't match up with us in any specter and say: 'Let's sit down and talk with them, because we have to do this to save the world?' Absolutely off the charts."

The United States and the five world powers could have gotten a better deal out of Tehran in many other ways — and brought the release of the four American hostages, he told Berliner.

"We could have done it with more severe sanctions. If you want to beat them, you want to beat them at their own game," he said. "First of all, those four Americans. Before we ever sat down and even entered into a discussion, say: 'We want our four Americans home right now,' end the discussion, call back when you're ready to move."

Also, "we should have gone into negotiations and said: 'You will never, ever have nuclear arms. Let's get that established right now — and then if you don't do it, if you think the sanctions before were bad, we're going to turn up the heat and we'll make sure that that is the way we get there.'

"We could have hurt them in a way that, literally, would have got them to a point to where they say: 'OK, we give up,' " Kelly said. "Why would you ever relinquish in a negotiation with somebody who doesn't even come close to who you are and end up with them winning the battle?

"It's absolutely ridiculous."
