Republicans are getting badly outspent in California's current election cycle and their best hope in the gubernatorial race is if Democrats knock each other out, political commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.
Reagan appeared on Monday's "Newsmax Now" and said the GOP in the Golden State needs some help.
"A win would be coming in second [in Tuesday's gubernatorial primary], so you go into the general election in November – that would be the win at this point in time," Reagan said.
"I know there's a wing and a prayer the Democrats collide with each other and somehow a Republican's gonna come out great, but the Republicans are being outspent 18-1 in the state."

Reagan noted the top two Republicans in California's race for governor, John Cox and Republican state assemblyman Travis Allen, have not appeared much on the state airwaves — unlike their Democratic opponents.
"I have not seen one ad for John Cox, one ad for Travis Allen, but I have seen millions of dollars worth of ads for [former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio] Villaraigosa, for [Lt. Gov.] Gavin Newsom," Reagan said. "The Republican Party in this state has absolutely zero money. They have to get into the general election to hope and pray to get money from the RNC and other areas."
Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, is not eligible to run for his third consecutive term and fifth term overall as the state's chief executive.
Tuesday's primary will see the top two candidates with the most votes, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the November general election.
