LA Times' Hiltzik: Single-Payer Healthcare Would Remedy Obamacare

By    |   Thursday, 06 February 2014 05:02 PM EST

There is an easy antidote to those who do not like the Affordable Care Act, says Michael Hiltzik, a Pulitzer Prize-winning business columnist for the Los Angeles Times.

"There's an easy remedy for that and we all know what it is. It's having the same system that the rest of the civilized world has for healthcare — which is [a] single-payer [system]," Hiltzik told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Basically your healthcare is provided for you as the price of being in society."

Until that happens, Hiltzik believes it is hard for people to argue that the Affordable Care Act isn't working.

"The fact of the matter is … we have 7 million people who are going to have health insurance this time around, right now, who could not get it before," he said.

"By the year 2024, we're going to be getting 25 million Americans a year who could not get health insurance before who are going to get it. And I don't quite understand why you think that's bad."
