The libertarian movement isn't the extremist cause that many Americans think it is, but is instead at the root of the American dream, says Matt Kibbe, author of
"Don't Hurt People and Don't Take Their Stuff: A Libertarian Manifesto."
"I really wanted to translate a lot of very complicated, big books into a simple philosophy and show people that libertarian isn't a scary, weird thing; it's really the basis of the American model," Kibbe told John Bachman and J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV.
"Ronald Reagan famously said that the heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism and a lot of people are checking it out now, maybe because of Rand Pau,l maybe because of the Internet, they're seeking these ideas and I wanted to make it accessible."
Kibbe, who is president and CEO of libertarian activist group FreedomWorks, said Republicans tend to embrace libertarian views more readily than Democrats, but that libertarianism doesn't necessarily favor one party over the other.
"Yes, we're not choosing sides, liberty is for everybody," he said.
