Sen. Marsha Blackburn to Newsmax: Border Crisis Can't End Until WH Admits Policies Failed

By    |   Wednesday, 15 February 2023 04:49 PM EST

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Wednesday the Biden administration does not want to fix the immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border because it would have to admit its policies had failed.

"If they were to change heart and say we have to secure this border, it means they have to admit that they were wrong," Blackburn told "American Agenda."

Blackburn visited the southern border's Del Rio Sector in Texas with fellow Sens. Katie Britt, R-Ala., and Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., in January and were part of a mini-documentary about their experience.

"The Biden administration does not want to admit that this is happening," Blackburn said. "Indeed, we have a Homeland Security secretary [Alejandro Mayorkas] who is not for homeland security. Go imagine that. His border policy is a wide-open border — and there's nothing compassionate, there is nothing humane, about the way they are treating this border."

Blackburn and her fellow senators saw nearly two dozen illegal immigrants, including a pregnant woman and small children, wade across the Rio Grande River and enter the U.S. She said it shows this not only is a national security crisis, but a humanitarian one as well.

She said the human trafficking and drug cartels are behind everything that is happening at the southern border.

"The cartels have very sophisticated technology, even our Border Patrol and local law enforcement will say the cartels have better technology than they do," Blackburn said. "The cartels will orchestrate a group of, say 100 migrants or 25 migrants and send them in one direction. Then they know the Border Patrol is going there, and they send the drug smugglers and those that are smuggling in criminal illegal aliens in another direction."

The mini-documentary focuses on a victim of sex trafficking, Karla Jacinto Romero, who testified in front of Congress in 2015 when she was trafficked for four years from tage 12 and raped more than 40,000 times.

"We have people that are coming to this country through our southern border from 176 different countries, and the cartel is in charge of that southern border," Blackburn said. "There are people that are being mentally, physically, sexually, and drug abused as they are making this journey.

"They buy the lie the cartel is telling, which is: 'The border is open, Biden has said you can come when you get to the United States, and everything is going to be great.' We need people to realize this is causing a crisis."
