President Joe Biden taking a trip to East Palestine, Ohio, a year after a disastrous train derailment is "a year late and a dollar short," Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., told Newsmax.
"The guy doesn't know what day of the week it is," Alford said on "Carl Higbie FRONTLINE." "I'm surprised he even knows he's going there."
According to the The Associated Press, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not specify when Biden would travel to East Palestine, but he is expected to be there on Saturday, the anniversary of the derailment, which caused massive plumes of toxic chemicals to erupt into a mushroom cloud over the community and seep into the water supply.
Asked last week about Biden visiting Ohio, the press secretary said: "When it is appropriate or helps ... the community for him to be there," he will go.
"It doesn't matter if it's in a rural area, urban area, suburban area, red state, blue state, the president has always been there to ... assist and be there for the community," she added. "So, when it is helpful, he certainly will do that."
Last year, social media users accused the president of ignoring Ohio because it's a "red" state politically. Biden has not yet traveled to East Palestine.
