Analyst Lisa Ruth: Obama Dooming Any Hope for Consensus

Tuesday, 01 July 2014 05:02 PM EDT

President Barack Obama's vow to keep using his executive power — to stop what he believes is Congress' refusal to compromise — spells doom for any kind of legislative harmony in Washington, a Newsmax panel concludes.

"What we’re really setting up moving forward is that between now and the end of the term, there's … not going to be any consensus, there's not going to be any working together,'' said Lisa Ruth, a senior analyst for the global intelligence and networking service LIGNET.

"You're going to have one side against the other. It's going to be very difficult to get things passed. It's going to be very acrimonious.''

Ruth's remarks came Tuesday during a panel discussion with Seton Motley, founder of Less Government, on "The Steve Malzberg Show'' on Newsmax TV.

Motley pointed to immigration reform as one issue Obama has threatened to push through without the aid of Congress.

"If he was at all interested in actually coming together with the Republicans on this, he doesn't need any new law, he doesn't need any new executive orders,'' Motley said.

"He can enforce the laws that exist currently as a demonstration of good faith towards any future negotiations.

"The law currently requires him to enforce the border. He's not doing that, so anything going forward is an exercise in folly.''
