Town Hall's Kieffer: GOP Needn't Compromise to Draw Millennials

By    |   Wednesday, 25 June 2014 06:54 PM EDT

Republicans do not have to compromise their values on gay marriage and other hot-potato issues to attract millennial voters, says Town Hall columnist Katie Kieffer.

"Young people today are socially libertarians, so that means they're OK with their friend living their life a different way from them,'' Kieffer told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But they don't want the federal government to tell them how to live, and that's all in our Constitution.

"The Tenth Amendment protects the rights of individuals in states to make certain decisions with regard to marriage,'' she said Wednesday.

Kieffer is author of the new book, "Let me Be Clear: Barack Obama's War on Millenials and One Woman's Case for Hope," published by Crown Forum. "Millennials" refers to people who reached young adulthood around the year 2000.

"I point that out, and if we abide by the Tenth Amendment and the First Amendment, we as conservatives, independents, libertarians, we can stay true to our values without compromising,'' she said. "At the same time, other people can live their lives freely as they so choose.''

Kiefer said that leading into the 2012 elections, polls showed that millennials were not going to vote for Obama in such high numbers as in 2008.

"He was getting very worried about that. So, that's why he and Michelle recruited Bill Clinton to help them,'' she said.

"As well, they went out there and said, if you vote for me you will go to college and you will not have to pay any student debt, you're going to have free healthcare at least until you're 26. So, they really ramped up those promises.''
