Donald Trump — the billionaire developer-turned-GOP presidential candidate — is getting America's attention with his "hot rhetoric," but beyond that, "there's nothing," John Sununu, former governor of New Hampshire, tells
Newsmax TV.
"He's a great showman and he knows how to get attention. He knows how to say things that attract an emotional response and he'll be in the process for a while," Sununu said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"I'm not sure it's got lasting power, I'm not sure it really resonates with people who are serious about their politics."
"But right now, he's grabbing the attention of a lot of folks that are out there looking for somebody to be speaking directly on the issues."
But Sununu — a former GOP presidential hopeful himself and author of
"The Quiet Man: The Indispensable Presidency of George H.W. Bush," published by Broadside Books — acknowledged that Trump is getting ink with his straight-talking, shoot-from-the-lip style.
"Right now, he's grabbing the attention of a lot of folks that are out there looking for somebody to be speaking directly on the issues," Sununu said.
A new
Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that Trump's favorability is on the rise with Republicans and he's closing in on front-runner Jeb Bush.
But Sununu believes Trump's sizzle is unlikely to last.
"The trouble is he puts a great veneer on the issues with his hot rhetoric, but you go past that and there's nothing," he told Steve Malzberg.
