Former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova said Monday he is convinced the Obama administration and the Department of Justice schemed to prevent Donald Trump from winning the 2016 presidential election.
During an appearance on "The Howie Carr Show," diGenova told Newsmax TV the DOJ plotted to let Hillary Clinton off the hook regarding her use of personal email while she served as secretary of state.
"I don't think there's any doubt that we have never seen a purposeful attempt to smear a presidential candidate after trying to exonerate his opponent: This is actually quite remarkable," diGenova said.
"The senior levels of the FBI and the Department of Justice engaged in a brazen plot to exonerate Hillary Clinton illegally and then, at the same time, create a false criminal case against a Republican candidate and then a president-elect and then a sitting president, and it is utterly remarkable."

Carr and diGenova also discussed the five months of missing text messages between two FBI officials who have ties to the Clinton email probe and the current Russia investigation.
"It is inconceivable to me that the FBI, which is known for its neurotic record keeping, has somehow lost text messages from these two major players during this period," diGenova said. "They need everybody up on Capitol Hill under oath about this. I just don't believe it. Every instinct of my body as a former U.S. attorney tells me that this is a cover up."
