Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that the U.S. should withhold funding from the World Health Organization until an investigation is conducted into its reaction to the coronavirus outbreak.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that the United Nations' health organization got "every aspect" of the outbreak "wrong," and threatened to withhold funding. In an interview on "The National Report," Hice said he agrees with Trump on the funding issue.
"I really do, we give over $500 million a year," Hice said, adding that "at the very least, this merits a serious investigation to find out what's going on. The World Health Organization was wrong on multiple fronts, they discouraged the president from shutting down travel from China early on. That would have been disastrous, can you imagine where we would be now had that travel ban not be in place?
"So, I think it certainly merits a thorough investigation, and personally I would support withholding funding until we get to the bottom of this."
