Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., told Newsmax TV on Friday that “it is time” to start reopening, noting that 26 million people have filed for unemployment since states began ordering lockdowns.
Hice told “The National Report” that the “vast majority” of Georgia, apart from the urban areas like downtown Atlanta, are ready for businesses to begin reopening with safety restrictions.
“It is time,” he said. “We have 26 million people, approximately, out of work – one out of every six individuals… are out of a job. We have got to get this economy going again, and when there are measures in place to maintain the safety of individuals, then it's time for us to start moving in that direction.”
Hice added that President Donald Trump’s voiced disapproval with Georgia officials for considering reopening the economy because he’s looking at the outbreak from a “national perspective,” but said that “likewise on the state level, Gov. Kemp is doing that and he’s making the right steps, I believe, in reopening Georgia.”
