Surgeon General Jerome Adams told Newsmax TV on Tuesday that the “interconnectivity between health and the economy” means that “the fastest way to reopening our economy” is by following safety guidelines.
“It’s important that we help everyone understand the interconnectivity between health and the economy because far too often pre-COVID, but especially in the midst of COVID, people have made a decision that you’re either pro-health or you’re pro-reopening,” the surgeon general told “National Report” Tuesday morning.
Adams added, “The fact is, one of the lessons we’ve learned is that the fastest way to reopening our economy is by embracing the five W’s: wear a mask, wash your face and wash your hands, watch your distance, wait a little bit longer to gather, and when it’s your turn get vaccinated.
“We really can’t underestimate the mental health and the economic harms that the country is facing, as devastating as the numbers are — and they truly are devastating from a death toll point of view. More people in this country have been harmed by the economic impacts of COVID than have been harmed by the physical impacts of COVID, so we need to speak to them in a language that resonates.”
