House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax on Monday that by the beginning of next week, it's his expectation that Hunter Biden will be found in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena to appear for a deposition.
Then, Comer said on "The Chris Salcedo Show," the country will get to see if U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland doles out the same justice as he did to Republicans who once defied a subpoena.
"With respect to the timeline, we moved as quickly as we could," Comer told Salcedo, regarding navigating the Christmas recess. "We're dealing with a new staff in the speaker's office. … The speaker's office has the general counsel, they have to sign off on all that. A lot of the new speaker's staff didn't start until January the first, so I think we're moving as quickly as we can."
The first votes will happen this week in committee, Comer said.
"We're doing this in conjunction with the House Judiciary Committee … so both committees will meet Wednesday, and we're gonna vote to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress. It will then move to the full floor for a full vote," Comer added. "I feel like at the beginning of next week, at the very latest, Hunter Biden will be held in contempt of Congress."
Then it's up to Garland to give Biden the same treatment he gave Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon when they refused to engage with House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riots.
"Look, we know how he's treated two Republicans that were held in contempt of Congress. Now, he's going to have an opportunity to hold the same type of justice with a Democrat that disavowed a lawful subpoena," Comer said of Garland.
"We'll see if, in fact, there is a two-tier system of justice, like many of us have been talking about for several months now."
