Americans have become "numb" to intelligence agencies spying on U.S. citizens, television host and commentator Sharyl Attkisson told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

The "Full Measure" star and author of "The Smear," in an interview with "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker, decried stories and comments posted online that are "heavily controlled by the industry that's directing narratives."

"We've now grown so used to the outrageous idea that our government intel agencies have been spying on members of Congress, journalists, American citizens," she said. "Something so outrageous that 10 years ago it would've and should've made front-page headlines every day, we're now kind of numb and used to it."

Attkisson, in her previous book "Stonewalled," detailed the massive controversy that erupted after allegations that she and former NSA secrets-leaker Edward Snowden were under surveillance.

"Suddenly it went away almost overnight, from front-page headlines and all of the press, to hearing almost nothing about it or if anything, a criticism of those who were bringing up this topic," she said.

"And when that happened, I learned through experience, the whole news environment is somehow being successfully managed."

In her upcoming Sunday show, Attkisson said she will talk to Republicans who charge that lawmakers from both parties are "colluding together behind the scenes," privately agreeing "to not make each other take a tough vote."

"To hear an actual member say this is pretty shocking,” she said.

"It's extra-constitutional,” she added. “One of them described it as a system by which party leadership requires dues of members once they get elected or else they're not allowed on committees. That's not a system that's called for in the Constitution. And it's certainly unconstitutional that our government would be . . . doing surveillance on citizens."
