Doctor Proposes Three-Point Plan to Make Healthcare More Affordable

By    |   Wednesday, 31 Dec 2014 11:54 AM

"Layers of bureaucracy" created by Obamacare have resulted in healthcare premiums that are tantamount to mortgages, according to Dr. Alieta Eck, former president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.

"The cost of a medical visit is about the same as it was adjusting for inflation maybe 10 years ago, but the cost of insurance has just skyrocketed and that's because we've let the government take over and get involved and just make all kinds of mandates and make everything more expensive," Eck said Wednesday on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum."

Expanding Medicaid, which is what has happened under Obamacare, is a "ridiculous" way to improve access to healthcare because many doctors don't accept it because they can't afford to take it, according to Eck

"It pays about 20 cents on the dollar so they stay away from it, it's actually less expensive to provide care for free than to get involved with the Medicaid system," she said. "That's what Obamacare is hanging its whole hat on in order to just increase Medicaid."

Eck, a former candidate for U.S. Senate from New Jersey, advocates a three-point plan for improving healthcare:

"One is direct pay for the routine," she suggests. "Ninety-two percent of people don't spend more than $5,000 in a given year on healthcare. They'll be just paying directly for their care.

"Then you have insurance for the catastrophic. That should not be expensive and it shouldn't have all the government mandates on what has to be covered of it. Let people choose the plan they want from the state they want with the deductible they want.

"Finally, you have real charity where doctors just care for people for free. However, what we need to do is protect those physicians for the medical malpractice."
