Reports of turmoil within China’s Communist Party over the growing trade war with the United States is proof President Donald Trump’s get-tough tariffs are having a dramatic effect, Gordon Chang, an Asian affairs expert and Daily Beast columnist tells Newsmax TV.

Four sources close to the Chinese government told Reuters that critics in the party are saying that an overly nationalistic Chinese stance may have hardened the U.S. position.
[Chinese President] Xi Jinping accumulated unprecedented or almost unprecedented control and when things are going well for China that was terrific. But now that things aren't going so well, there's nobody else for him to blame because he is the chairman of everything," Chang told hosts Miranda Khan, John Cardillo and Gina Loudon.
"And what we're seeing right now are his traditional enemies and the ones that he's created recently coming out to get him … His grip on power right now is secure, but if this continues for next several months, I think that we could see a real change in the Chinese political system. Or at least the people who are leading it."
