George Allen: Rubio Campaign is Strengthening

Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is enjoying a new swell of grassroots support that will help him begin winning delegates and eventually capture the Republican presidential nomination, George Allen, a former U.S. senator and governor of Virginia, tells Newsmax TV.

And Allen believes Rubio will start racking up those delegates on Tuesday night as the results of the Nevada caucuses come in.

"Marco Rubio will do well and everyone will get some delegate votes probably out of Nevada, [although Donald] Trump looks to be strongest there," Allen said Tuesday to J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"But we've seen in the Rubio campaign with the momentum out of South Carolina [and] a lot of good grassroots support joining with new endorsements.

"So Marco has some really good momentum for his campaign and Nevada will be important — but March 1 Super Tuesday is really going to be an important delegate-vote day."

Allen believes Rubio has the best chance of uniting Republicans and "getting young people and new people to join our cause, and it’s a conservative cause."

"People like positive, constructive ideas on tax reform and productive energy policy and reining in the unaccountable bureaucrats up in Washington and then trusting the people in the states to make decisions for themselves," he said.

"So Marco Rubio as some of the field narrows — as Jeb Bush went out and as [Ohio Gov. John] Kasich probably will go out — Marco Rubio is going to be in a very strong position."

Allen also suggested Sen. Ted Cruz’s quest for the nomination may be in trouble in the wake of the dirty-politics scandals surrounding his run, including a false charge that Rubio was disrespectful to the Bible.

"Cruz is going to have a hard time … getting people to join and support his campaign," Allen said.
