When the United States pulled out of Iraq in 2011, President Barack Obama said that Iraq was stable and self-reliant, but the recent crisis has shown that not to be the case, says Fred Gedrich, military analyst from The Washington Times.
"When President Obama decided to remove all U.S. troops and made a statement when he did it that 'we’re leaving behind a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq,'" we're now seeing that is not true, Gedrich told Ed Berliner on "MidPoint" on

Iraq is "anything but sovereign," he said. "It’s certainly not stable with all the bombing and fighting going on, and it’s not self-reliant — it’s counting on the Russians, the Iranians, and begging for the U.S. to come in and help against the Sunnis."
The Islamic State has been gaining increasing control over parts of Iraq, and "the Shiite government of Iraq is no match for them, and that’s a big concern."
