Censorship is on the rise all over the world, says Flemming Rose, foreign editor of the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which sparked a global fury in 2005 with its cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
"This is not only about Islam. We have internationalists in India who are pursuing the same path, Russian Orthodox Christians who are canceling exhibitions, attacking exhibitions in Moscow ... So it's a worldwide phenomenon," Rose told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.

"People in order to protect what is sensible to them, try to have people shut up and not criticize and have an open debate about important matters."
Rose — the author of the new book,
"The Tyranny of Silence," published by The Cato Institute — added that the United States is also under pressure.
"The problem of the United States is that you do have a social pressure, you do not have pressure for changing the law," he said.

The publishing of the 12 cartoons, which were approved by Rose, led to worldwide protests and riots in some Muslim countries.
