Ron Christie: Killing Spree Spurs 'Gender and Victim Politics'

Monday, 02 June 2014 08:37 PM EDT

Those blaming Elliot Rodger's mass killing spree on male chauvinism, as did feminist lawyer Gloria Allred, are practicing a form of "gender and victim politics,'' says Republican strategist and Daily Beast columnist Ron Christie.

"It's never about the responsibility of the individual to conduct themselves normally in society. It's never the responsibility, in this case, of the parents, knowing that they had a severely mentally disturbed young man, to have institutionalized him,'' Christie told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It's always . . . someone else's fault . . . I wish that these people would go away and we could have an honest conversation and . . .say, let's take more responsibility for our own individual actions in society,'' Christie said Monday.

Rodger, 22, used knives and guns to kill six people and injure 12 others before killing himself near the University of California, Santa Barbara. He reportedly went berserk because of his inability to date women.

Christie made his remarks during a panel discussion with Newsmax White House correspondent John Gizzi.

"It diminishes from the tragedy when one gets off on these non sequiturs,'' Gizzi said.
