WaPo's Ed Rogers: Obama Puts Middle East in Chaos

Tuesday, 03 June 2014 03:17 PM EDT

The Obama administration's coddling of anti-Israeli nations in its quest to broker a peace in the Middle East has thrown the Holy Land into chaos, says Ed Rogers, a contributor to the Washington Post's "PostPartisan" blog.

"I was in Jerusalem a couple of weeks ago, and the dismay, the bewilderment, the uncertainty of America as a reliable partner against Iran, of America as a reliable ally and defender of Israel, is more in question than at any time I can remember in my life," Rogers told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"The uncertainty, the doubt that this administration has shown with our ally Israel, is unhealthy. It's unhealthy with Israel, but it's also unhealthy for our other allies to have to witness. Not good. We're going to pay a price," he said Tuesday.

Rogers, who is chairman of the BGR Group, a government affairs and public relations firm in Washington, also said President Barack Obama's claim that he had consulted Congress before this week's terrorist swap was off base.

"It's offensive to the members of Congress to say, 'well, yeah, you were consulted,' when you weren't. To say they followed the law when they did not," Rogers said.

"Again, I don't expect him to make an admission, but [try] a little intellectual honesty. They just seem incapable of candor, as if they're above candor.''

Rogers said the outrage over the swap of five terrorists for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl transcends politics.

"It's not just partisan delight that you're witnessing here, it's a lot of worried people in America,'' he said.
