Politics should be left out of science, Dr. David Samadi warned Friday.
In an interview on Newsmax TV's "Greg Kelly Reports," the urologic oncology specialist at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, N.Y., called the debate among some noted academics over whether it is more risky to protest during the coronavirus pandemic or remain silent on racism "very disturbing."
"I think it's very disturbing that they're letting their politics get in the middle of . . . science and medicine," he said.
"The truth is that all the models turned out to be completely incorrect . . . and not precise — completely off," he said of projections of more than 200,000 COVID-19 deaths in the United States.
"And to see about 100,000 [deaths], which is a lot of people, and our heart goes out to everyone that lost their lives and families — but the truth is that there were mistakes," he added.
"There was a time that [experts warned] if you stick your head out of your house you're going to basically die from coronavirus. We're gonna have all the hospitals filled up and it would be a death bed. And thankfully none of this happened."
"And now the fact that they guys are now saying it's safe . . . don't worry about social distancing, about wearing masks, it's very unfortunate," he said.
"We want to leave the politics out of medicine," he said.
