President-Elect Trump's 4 Big New Year's Resolutions

By    |   Wednesday, 01 January 2025 12:06 PM EST

Asked by Newsmax correspondent Sarah Williamson about his New Year's resolutions, President-elect Donald Trump gave a vague, general, and quite positive answer.

"I just want everybody to be happy, healthy, and well," the soon-to-be 47th president told Newsmax.

But the truth is that Trump has some very big "resolutions" for 2025.

Newsmax chatted with some of Trump's aides, advisers, and friends, and here's how we see his top four New Year's resolutions playing out:

Bring peace to Ukraine and Russia

After Trump was shot earlier this year, he told top aides his top priority would be bringing to an end this needless war.

He believes the loss of life on both sides has been horrific — and worsened by a lack of leadership from the Biden White House.

Trump is aware that Putin and Russia are 100% responsible for the war, launching an unprovoked attack against Ukraine in 2022.

But, ever the negotiator, Trump wants to avoid finger pointing and instead focus on a resolution.

He's tapped one of his top security advisers, former Gen. Keith Kellogg, to be his special envoy to stop the war.

Watch for Trump to use economic sanctions to push Russia into negotiations.

Trump will work to lower oil prices, hurting Russia's economy and the cash flow driving its war machine.

At the same time Trump will pressure President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians to come to the negotiating table.

Securing the Border

For Trump this is not a wish but a must. He has a clear plan for securing the border.

First, Trump will build and complete the wall.

He sees continuing the construction of a physical barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border to deter illegal crossings as critical to a secure border.

Second, he plans increased border patrol funding by allocating more resources to border security agencies to enhance surveillance, technology, and personnel.

Third, deportations. He is fully committed to mass deportations of illegal aliens that entered the U.S. during the Biden years. Expect a focus on illegals with criminal backgrounds.

Trump will also move to implement stricter regulations on asylum claims.

At the same time, the Trump administration will pressure Mexico and Central American countries to stop the flow of migrants through their nations.

"Trump plans to go the source of the problem," one adviser told Newsmax.

Reviving the U.S. economy

Key to his Make America Great Again program is reviving the U.S. economy.

Trump is planning massive tax cuts, including a new 15% corporate tax rate for corporations that do business or make products in the U.S.

Expect the Trump White House to pressure the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. Trump believes the economy flourishes in a low-interest environment.

And China and exporters to the U.S. beware.

Trump plans a tough tariff policy — making sure China and other nations can't flood the U.S. market with cheap goods.

Trump believes strongly in trade equity. This means if China wants to sell cars in the U.S., it also needs to buy U.S. cars or other products. The president-elect wants a more balanced trade program.

Make America strong again

Trump believes the Biden administration stripped America's defenses and weakened U.S. national security.

Trump will seek higher budgets for the military to enhance readiness, modernization, and overall capabilities.

He will also demand that NATO allies and other partners to increase their defense spending and take on a greater share of security responsibilities.

He is tired of the U.S. paying for Europe's security and is now seeking a 5% spend of GDP on armed forces across NATO.

Trump also wants to invest in new technologies and equipment to ensure that U.S. forces remain at the forefront of military innovation, including cyber capabilities and advanced weaponry.

The president-elect will emphasize a strong military presence in strategic regions to deter adversaries and reassure allies, including maintaining robust troop deployments and naval presence.

Trump sees major hot spots as Israel and Iran, Ukraine, Korea, and Taiwan.

He knows he will need a military buildup — and soon to deal with potential conflicts.

No president entering office had had such serious domestic and international problems as Trump will face.

But core to Trump's plan for success is leadership.

He believes strong U.S. leadership will increase confidence in American consumers while deterring our enemies abroad.

Expect 2025 to be a good year for President Donald Trump, America, and the world.
