President-elect Donald Trump swore he would be a president to all Americans, a pledge that was evident in his meeting with former Vice President Al Gore, former George W. Bush aide Scott Jennings told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on Monday's "Newsmax Prime," Jennings told host J.D. Hayworth he was not surprised to see Gore score some time with the incoming commander-in-chief at Trump Tower.

"I think when you're president-elect and soon-to-be president of the United States, you do have a responsibility to have some kind of a relationship with the people who come before you, so it doesn't surprise me to hear that Al Gore could score a meeting with the Trumps and President-elect Trump himself," Jennings said.
"President Trump said on election night, after he was declared the winner, that he was going to be president for all the people and Al Gore certainly represents a segment of the American population that believes in some far-left wing, liberal causes.
"That doesn't mean Donald Trump's going to take up those causes and it doesn't mean he necessarily believes what Al Gore has to say, but I think taking the meetings shows some broad leadership qualities that you do want to see in a president of the United States."
Trump and Gore discussed global warming, an issue Trump has brushed off in the past as something created by the Chinese — a claim China denied.
Jennings also talked about the controversy surrounding Trump's phone conversation with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen. It marked the first time a U.S. president or incoming president has spoken with Taiwan's leader since the 1970s.
"It strikes me that Donald Trump is sending a signal that there's a new sheriff in town and that he's not going to be bullied or pushed around by China just because we have economic relations at a very high level," Jennings said.
