Dick Morris: Canada Shooting Could Affect US Midterms

By    |   Wednesday, 22 October 2014 03:39 PM EDT

Veteran political analyst Dick Morris says that the Canadian shooting could have an impact on the U.S. midterm elections, "depending on what the deal is."

"If it's just a regular criminal maniac, people will call for gun control and vote Democrat," Morris told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"If it's an Islamist, people will say terrorism is rampant and vote Republican," he explained.

A soldier was shot and died in Ottawa near the National War Memorial on Wednesday. The gunman than entered the Parliament buildings, being chased by police.

At least 30 shots were fired before the gunman was killed, but Canadian police are searching for other possible suspects.

"Yesterday, there was an unpublicized incident in Canada — it got very little press in the U.S., and it was all over the press in Canada — two Canadian soldiers were killed," Morris said. "They were run over by a car by an Islamic extremist."

"That was a few days after ISIS called for attacks on the military in Canada to retaliate against Canada for supporting U.S. attacks against ISIS," he added.

According to Morris, "the video explicitly asks the jihadists to run over soldiers with their cars, and a guy did. He killed one soldier and injured another. He was chased, his car flipped over, he came out with a knife, and he was killed."

"On his website there was jihadist nonsense," he said, adding that Wednesday's shooting "might have something to do with that."

"The whole point here is there is terrorism here — ISIS is here," he contends.

"They beheaded a woman in Oklahoma, killed a kid in New Jersey, killed three other guys in Washington state, all chanting jihadist slogans when they did so," he added.

"Now, the Canadian incident — ISIS is here," Morris said.

"Obama doesn't want to do admit it," he explained. "He calls these incidents workplace violence, but you can't hide from it."
