NeW's Agness: No Shortage of Conservative Women at US Colleges

By    |   Monday, 30 June 2014 06:44 PM EDT

Conservative women are alive and well on American college campuses — and it is important their ideas be supported and nurtured, according to Karin Agness, founder and president of the Network of enlightened Women (NeW).

"I'd encourage anyone who thinks that young women are a lost cause for conservatives to come to one of our NeW events,'' Agness told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"We had our ninth annual national conference just a couple weeks ago and held it at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., and had over 100 young women.

"We had a packed crowd and these women were excited to learn about the issues … learn how to talk about them and get the ammunition they need to take these viewpoints back to their college campuses.''

Agness, whose Virginia-based group fosters the education and leadership skills of culturally conservative women, said those on the left too often control the media flow on college campuses.

"They shout the loudest so they're the voices that these young women hear. So it's important to provide an alternative,'' she said.

"We also need to cultivate that next generation of journalists and writers and those people who are going to be community leaders.''
