Walsh: Some in GOP Agree With Schumer on Ronny Jackson

A number of Republicans agree with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's, D-N.Y., concerns about the nomination of Dr. Ronny Jackson to head the Veteran's Affairs – but they are too "cowardly" to stick their necks out and admit it, former Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"Clearly, the Trump administration nominated the guy without properly vetting this nominee," Walsh told hosts Miranda Khan and John Cardillo on Wednesday's "America Talks Live." "We've had so much come out in the last few days, not just from Democrats but from Republicans as well.

"If it were just Schumer, I wouldn't give a damn . . . I'm so sick of these cowardly Republicans in Washington, D.C. I can tell you I've talked to a number of them privately. They've got the same concerns that Schumer has, they just don't have the courage to voice them publically."

Schumer ripped the Trump administration Tuesday for its "slap-dash" vetting process, saying it has done the "worst job" of vetting nominees of "any administration I can remember."

Jackson, the White House physician under both Trump and former President Barack Obama, is under fire for alleged professional misconduct said to include involvement in a hostile work environment, drinking on the job, and improperly dispensing medication.

Sources told CNN that in one incident on an overseas trip in 2015, Jackson was intoxicated and banged on the hotel room door of a female employee. The incident became so loud the Secret Service stopped Jackson over concern he would wake then-President Barack Obama, the sources said.

Walsh, whose new news and talk show will debut Monday at 9 p.m. ET on Newsmax TV, told Khan and Cardillo:

"If Trump believes in him, he ought to just get behind him full bore, and he'll get approved. But it's a mess right now. Look, we love Trump, I love Trump, I love the fact that Trump shoots from the hip and he runs with his gut.

"But this may be one of those examples when the rest of his team didn't keep up with him and properly vet this nominee."

Walsh said Trump's wishy-washy defense of Jackson on Tuesday did not help matters.

"'I don't know why he'd want this job – all of these politicians are mean and the media sucks!' . . . That's pretty much what Trump said [Tuesday]," Walsh said.

"He needs to get in front of a camera and say 'I picked this guy because he's the perfect man to reform the V.A., and I don't appreciate this last-minute political hit job on him. What the president said [Tuesday], confused and muddied the waters even further."
