Tom DeLay: Tears of 'Hard-Nosed' Schumer Don't Ring True

President Donald Trump is right to accuse Sen. Chuck Schumer of shedding "fake tears" because the Democratic Senate leader is a guarded, tough-as-nails guy who would never be seen crying in public, former House Majority leader Tom DeLay tells Newsmax TV.

"I'm sort of with President Trump. I want to know who his acting coach is. I've known Chuck Schumer for 20 years, I worked out with him almost every morning in the members' gym when I was in Congress," DeLay said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"I know him as personal as you can get to him, he's a very guarded guy. But crying? Chuck Schumer? Ain't no way."

On Sunday, Schumer of New York made an emotional speech in opposition of Trump's immigration order which bans residents of seven countries believed to harbor terrorists. He appeared to weep — an act Trump said represented "fake tears."

Very likely, according to the former Texas congressman.

"He's as hard-nosed, and excuse my language, as hard-ass a guy that I know of and nothing bothers him. So, crying is quite unusual," DeLay said.

DeLay defended Trump's housecleaning in the State Department and other federal agencies.

"Remember that for eight years [President Barack] Obama's been appointing and hiring people from the left to fill all our agencies. I just can't imagine how many of those leftists are left in the State Department that was to the left anyway before Obama even came in," he told Steve Malzberg.

"So, these kinds of little nicks and tucks are going to happen at least for the next few months if not years because there's people deep in the bowels of these agencies that hate Donald Trump and they're going to do everything they can.

"I mean on this refugee issue, I have no doubt that some people in the Department of Homeland Security tried to screw it up and the media focuses in on all the mistakes and mishaps that happened over the weekend and avoid talking about the real issue of stopping terrorists from coming in."

DeLay said he was dubious that the mass protests at airports across the country were grassroots movements.

"I mean the spontaneous demonstrations at the airports? Spontaneous, do you really believe that? They were ready and waiting, all the leftist organizations, the [liberal billionaire George] Soros people that are being paid to be nothing but professional demonstrators are just waiting on an opportunity like this.

"This is going to happen over and over and over again . . . I am really impressed with the backbone of not only President Trump but the people around him that are standing up, pushing back, standing up for what they're doing, standing up and explaining to the American people. It's very impressive."

As far as Trump's term as president, DeLay predicts, "It's going to be four long years."

DeLay is the author of author of "Revival! Revolution! Rebirth!'" written with Wallace Henley and published by WND Books.
