Purple Heart Recipient: Support the Boot Campaign

By    |   Friday, 27 June 2014 02:39 PM EDT

Sgt. Joey Jones, a Purple Heart recipient after losing his legs in Afghanistan in 2010, is urging Americans to get involved in the Boot Campaign and its "Push-ups for Charity " movement.

The group's goal, Jones told "America's Forum" Host J.D. Hayworth Friday on Newsmax TV, is to support, accept and embrace members of the military who are coming home from war.

"It's pretty tough to be an American these days," Jones said, "much less, to put your life on pause for three or four years to serve your country."

With the Push-ups campaign, people sign up to host events in their homes, churches, VFW posts or elsewhere to do push-ups for 90 seconds while raising money online to donate for veterans, said Jones.

The Boot Campaign, he said, tries to raise awareness, promote patriotism, and provide assistance for veterans and active-duty military members in need.

One of the programs, the Military Relief Fund, helps vets and active duty service members who need urgent financial assistance,"whether it be a plane ticket to visit mom and dad or 300 dollars to fill your propane tank," said Jones.

The "final push" will be at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, said Jones, with all money raised going into the Boot Campaign.
