Ex-Navy Seal: Islamic State 'Grossly Underestimated' by US

Former U.S. Navy SEAL Carl Higbie says he believes President Barack Obama will try to broker a peace deal with the Islamic State (ISIS).

"He'll eventually negotiate some sort of truce with them, in hopes that they will want to coexist. But keep in mind, in their charter … there is no coexistence," Higbie said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"If you look at all the extreme Muslim countries that are ruled by extremist Islam, there are no minority rights. But yet here in America, they're screaming for minority rights."

Higbie — author of "Battle on the Home Front: A Patriot's Mission to Save the American Dream" — said a report by German journalist Jürgen Todenhöfer, who was granted access to ISIS, has confirmed his worst fears that the terror group is "grossly underestimated" in the United States.

Higbie believes the threat is so serious that any sort of allegiance to ISIS should be criminalized.

"At some point, we're going to have to criminalize domestic behavior of supporting ISIS, any type of affiliation with it where you have to criminalize it, put people in jail and worse sometimes," he explained.

"If you support ISIS in any way, shape or form — whether it be media, social media, publicly protesting, declaration to support them — you should have your citizenship revoked immediately."

Higbie said it remains unclear as to why ISIS allowed Todenhöfer to observe their operation.

"The fact they didn't chop his head off is somewhat confusing to me because they've done that to pretty much every other journalist they've come in contact with," Higbie said.

"What I don't understand is how he got as far as he did and how they let him? Is this a propaganda push? Are they starting to politicize themselves? Are they trying to get the mainstream media and say this is who they are and this is what they stand for?"
