Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Wednesday that the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is "a complete disaster" by design and that the Biden administration is "looking to change the electorate" with the massive influx of migrants.
"You guys know this probably better than anybody, that the administration could secure the border tonight if they wanted to secure the border tonight," Mast said on Newsmax’s "American Agenda." "The fact is they don't want to do it.
"They want to let people in. They want to take care of their travel. They want to take care of their medical needs. They want to take care of their food. Have states take care of their lodging, their education, all of these different things.
"They don't mind that happening because they're looking to change the electorate across the face of this nation, change so many things … and all to the detriment of the U.S. taxpayer. That's not hyperbole; it's what we all see going on before us. But, of course, this administration, it's always, Believe what we say, don't believe what you see with your own eyes."
House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green, R-Tenn., on Wednesday officially requested that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas provide written testimony to the panel as House Republicans seek Mayorkas' impeachment over the southern border crisis.
The committee would have preferred Mayorkas sit for a deposition and originally asked him to testify on Jan. 18, but he told the panel that he had a scheduling conflict and would be unable to appear.
Green called the request for written testimony Mayorkas' "last chance."
"Our request for written testimony from Secretary Mayorkas is his last chance to show some semblance of respect for the people's representatives and our constitutional oversight duties," Green said. "The American people are begging for Congress to act, and we will heed that call. Congressional oversight will continue, with or without Secretary Mayorkas' cooperation."
Under Mayorkas, Customs and Border Protection has reportedly had 8.1 million encounters with illegal immigrants, including 6.7 million at the southern border.
