Republican Rep. Brian Babin told Newsmax TV Friday people need to respect police officers and obey their commands and doing otherwise, he said, is a "prescription for disaster."
During an interview on "Newsmax Prime," Babin spoke with host J.D. Hayworth about the fatal police shooting in Charlotte and the subsequent violent riots that have occurred.
"You can't have a society without peace and tranquility if you've got nothing but anarchy and chaos going on, and I think you've got several folks involved in this movement that don't want peace and tranquility," Babin said.

"They want to have an agenda and you know the bottom line is, when I was a child, when I was a youngster, my father told me, 'you respect the authorities. When you have dealings with a police officer, you mind him, you obey him, if there's a problem there we'll fix it later.'
"But to resist arrest and to misbehave when a police officer is trying to question you or arrest you is a prescription for disaster. Our police officers have a dangerous, dangerous job to begin with and we need to cooperate with them. Do not resist arrest."
Keith Lamont Scott, an African-American, was shot by police in Charlotte Tuesday after he refused orders to drop a gun. The officer who fired the fatal shots was black, but Black Lives Matter and other groups took to the streets of the North Carolina city to protest the killing.
A photo of the scene afterward shows what appears to be a gun lying next to Scott.
