An independent investigator should probe reported ties between Donald Trump and Russia, Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, tells Newsmax TV.
Kristol said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" that while House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said there is no evidence so far from U.S. intelligence that Trump campaign officials had contact with Russian operatives, "I think we need to have some kind of public report that confirms this."
"Not a prosecutor exactly, maybe … a bipartisan team that the president and congressional leaders agree on or something that [is a] very high quality, no ax to grind kind of thing. It'd be nice to be able to get clarity on it."

Kristol noted that "some people who are credible think there are problems, other people think not."
"I think an independent look at it by someone that both sides trust who really just says 'ok there's nothing there' or 'there is something there' would be very helpful," he told Malzberg.
Trump has blasted reports that members of his campaign staff had contact with Russian operatives before the Nov. 8th presidential election as "fake news."
The Russian government has been accused of attempting to influence the 2016 presidential election by hacking and leaking the private emails of top Democrats.
