Bernie Kerik on Pompeo-NKorea Meeting: 'It's a Good Step'

Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that "it doesn't make any difference" what Mike Pompeo's title was when he secretly met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un earlier this month ahead of the summit with President Donald Trump.

"It's a good step," Kerik, who oversaw the city's forces during the 9/11 attacks, told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman. "It's one of the strongest steps toward peace in that region in many, many years.

"I don’t care if he's the secretary of state or he's the director of the CIA," Kerik added. "To me, it doesn't make any difference."

Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey joined Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine in saying he would not back Pompeo in a confirmation vote that could take place as early as next week.

One Republican, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, said last month that he would not support Pompeo's confirmation.

"I want less fighting on the North and South Korean front — and let's try to get rid of the nuclear weapons," Kerik told Bachman.

"That's the key thing here."
