Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that the shooting attack on Republicans at their baseball practice in Virginia was part of "a bloodless coup attempt" on President Donald Trump "by the left."
"Whether anybody wants to admit it or not, there is a bloodless coup attempt, a political assassination attempt on the president of the United States by the left," Kerik, who commanded the city's forces during the 9/11 assaults, told "Newsmax Now" host Miranda Khan.
"There is. They want him out of office. They want him out of office."
The attacks range from the "baseless" Russia accusations to the aggressive news media coverage of the president, Kerik said.
"They're doing everything, including using the criminal justice system and the Department of Justice."

Regarding Russia, "there's nothing there," Kerik told Khan. "There hasn't been anything there.
"But they keep on this mission – and they're pushing and fomenting this hatred.
"This hatred is creating people like this and others to do the things they're doing," he said.
But it's up to Republicans to stop the assaults on President Trump, Kerik said.
"At some point, they've got to get the courage to stand up and say: 'It's wrong and it's got to stop.'"
