ADL's Michael Salberg: Anti-Semitism Survey Results 'Sobering'

By    |   Thursday, 15 May 2014 06:34 PM EDT

The Anti-Defamation League's massive survey of 102 countries that found that one in four adults in the world holds an anti-Semitic attitude in some form is "sobering," says Michael Salberg, the director of international affairs at the ADL.

"The results are not surprising, looking at individual countries, looking at the regional levels and delving down into the data, it's illuminating and it's sobering," Salberg told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV.

The ADL director said that "the strength of anti-Semitic attitudes is highest in the Middle East and North Africa."

Story continues below video.

He explained that in that region, most of the anti-Semitic attitudes come from "the Internet and satellite TV," but now the group knows the "means to counteract it."

The poll found that 54 percent of those polled had heard of the Holocaust, but Salberg said that the most surprising part of that number is that 32 percent of those "who were aware of it either thought it was exaggerated or a myth."

He said that he is concerned about this number "because of the lessons that the Holocaust has for all of society," adding that "genocide is still with us."
