The extraordinary lead of Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina in the GOP presidential polls shows just how frustrated American voters are, Ann Romney tells

And Romney, wife of former Massachusetts governor and two-time presidential candidate Mitt Romney, says the phenomenon of three political outsiders rising to the top of the GOP pack cannot be ignored.

"It's a very good indication of an emotional place that people are in this country. It is a sense of frustration," Romney said in an interview aired Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."
"So it's a mood and that mood is … representing the frustrations that all of the voters feel. And if you look at the other side, the same thing is happening. It's not unique to the Republican Party. It's extraordinary."
Several polls this week have Trump, a billionaire real estate developer, Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon, and Fiorina, the one-time CEO of Hewlett Packard, in a considerable lead over GOP establishment figures including Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Chris Christie.
As well, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is closing in on presumed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
"This is an election cycle like we've never seen before. So there's definitely something going on in this country and we should not ignore the fact that there is something going on," Romney said.
Romney is on a nationwide tour in support of her new memoir,
"In This Together: My Story," published by Thomas Dunne. The book which chronicles her struggle with multiple sclerosis is the subject of a
lengthy interview with Romney aired Wednesday on "Newsmax Prime."
On the Malzberg show, Romney shared her opinion of the fairness of the American press.
"Mitt and I obviously went through two presidentials and had the nomination in one, so we went the whole 9 yards in one. Did I ever feel like we were being treated fairly? Of course, never!" she said.
Asked if she believes the media slants it's coverage against Republicans, she said:
"If you talk to the individual reporters, we actually end up having respect for in some levels, but they are very different politically. They don't think they are.
"So when we try to point out some of their biases or everything else, I think they're a little stunned by it."
