Ira Mehlman: Amnesty for Illegals Will 'Destroy the Middle Class'

Friday, 18 April 2014 02:34 PM EDT

House Republicans are looking out for big business, President Barack Obama wants to protect lawbreakers, and nobody is looking out for the American people in the immigration reform debate, says Ira Mehlman.

"That is what is so conspicuously absent in this debate about immigration reform," the media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform told John Bachman and J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV. "Look, everybody wants immigration reform, but whose interest ought to be paramount here?"

Story continues below video.

Granting amnesty to the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States will flood the country's existing middle class, Mehlman said.

"Look, I mean if we want to destroy the middle class in this country just go ahead, pass that bill, because that's precisely what it will do," he said.

"You will have the wealth concentrated in the hands of the very few and the rest of us will be scrambling to keep our heads above water, because there is no way that Americans are going to be able to retain their hold on the middle class if we simply flood the labor market with lots of new immigrants and grant amnesty to millions and millions of those who are here now illegally."
