Taxpayers will foot the bill for several House members to attend the funeral of Rep. Bill Young Thursday in Tampa.
Young, who died Friday at age 82, was the longest-serving Republican in the House.
The House on Tuesday approved the expenses, and,
according to The Hill, Speaker John Boehner will decide how many and which lawmakers will take a military flight to Florida.
It was unclear how much the trip would cost, but normally the military is reimbursed from House administrative expenses for members' flights. And while using military aircraft has become somewhat of rarity because of the sequester, lawmakers still take military flights when traveling to Afghanistan or other areas considered war or combat zones.
Due to the sequester — automatic spending cuts that took effect in March — the speaker's office must approve most travel-related expenses, especially those for special observances or occasions.
Young, a Republican, represented the Tampa area for 43 years. He announced only a few days before his death that
he would not seek re-election in order to spend more time with his family.
