Wolves at a popular wildlife park near Paris reportedly attacked and critically injured a woman jogger who had wandered into the cars-only area.
The BBC reported the attack occurred early Sunday when the 36-year-old woman — a guest at a lodge in Thoiry Park, strayed within a safari zone meant for cars only.
Three arctic wolves pounced on her, biting the woman on her neck, back and one leg, according to the outlet.
Thoiry, about 25 miles west of Paris, is one of France's most popular wildlife parks where some 800 animals roam free while visitors watch from vehicles.
The park lodge is near the wolf and bear enclosures — and is protected by electric fences and ditches, the BBC reported, citing the France Info news site.
It's unclear why the woman entered the car-only safari zone, the BBC reported.
"We do not know at this stage whether the guest made a mistake or whether there was a problem with the signposts," a police source told Le Parisien newspaper, the outlet reported.
The woman was rescued after park attendants heard her screams; she was taken to a nearby hospital, the news outlet reported, adding an investigation is under way.
