West Virginia’s House Judiciary Committee voted on Tuesday to impeach all four justices on the state’s Supreme Court, The Charleston Gazette-Mail reported.

The charges against the judges include “unnecessary and lavish” spending of taxpayer money, corruption, and neglect of duty, according to the newspaper.

The West Virginia House committee approved 14 articles of impeachment in all.

Chief Justice Margaret Workman and Justice Robin Davis are both subject of four articles of impeachment, and Justice Beth Walker is subject of two. Justice Allen Loughry is the subject of eight articles, and is facing additional charges over abusing access to state resources, the newspaper said.

Loughry has been indicted on 23 federal counts, which includes charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, making false statements to a federal agent, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering.

The next step is for the articles to be presented in the full House. The Senate will begin impeachment trials if the articles get a majority in the House and a two-thirds vote in the Senate.

If impeached, the sitting justices would be banned from seeking public office in West Virginia again, according to tthe Gazette-Mail.
