Democratic gubernatorial loser Wendy Davis was skewered with Texas Monthly magazine's "Bum Steer of the Year" award for her "train wreck" of a campaign against Republican winner Greg Abbott.
The annual awards take a snarky jab at Texas politicians, odd news stories and personalities,
the San Antonio Express-News reports.
Former winners include Gov. Rick Perry in 2012, Tom Delay, Anna Nicole Smith, and Lance Armstrong.
This year's cover depicts Davis stepping in a cow patty sporting the pink Mizuno "Wave Rider" sneakers she wore through her
headline-grabbing filibuster against Texas' new abortion restrictions in 2013.
"Nothing, and we mean nothing, could match the train wreck that was Wendy Davis, Battleground Texas, and the Democrats," the magazine declared.
Despite Davis' national recognition and large campaign coffers, the magazine mocked her campaign as dogged by "Infighting! Staff shake-ups! Tension with the press! Missteps over her own biography!"
Davis lost by more percentage points than Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tony Sanchez did in 2002, Texas Monthly wrote, and won 270,499 fewer votes than Democratic candidate for governor Bill White did in 2010.
"It's not that the Democrats underperformed," the magazine wrote. "It's that the party that hasn't won a statewide race since 1994 actually dug itself an even deeper hole!"
