Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be among many 2016 Republican presidential hopefuls speaking at the Iowa Freedom Summit in Des Moines later this month.
The event, hosted by Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King and the nonprofit group Citizens United, is scheduled for Jan. 24.
"Gov. Walker looks forward to sharing the story of Wisconsin's successful reforms and common sense message with grass-roots conservatives," campaign spokesman Tom Evenson told the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Thursday.
According to the Citizens United website, other speakers will include former Alaska Gov. and 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin; Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah; Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn; real estate mogul Donald Trump; former House Speaker and 2012 presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich; former Arkansas Gov. and presidential nominee Mike Huckabee; retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson; and Jim DeMint, the former South Carolina senator who heads the Heritage Foundation.
"Citizens United and Congressman Steve King are teaming up to bring grass-roots activists from across Iowa to hear directly from conservative leaders on how we can get America back on track by focusing on our core principles of pro-growth economics, social conservatism, and a strong national defense," the organization said on its
website.
Walker is among a number of candidates weighing 2016 bids — but three hopefuls are not speaking at the summit: Sen. Marco Rubio and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, both of Florida, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, the Journal Sentinel reports.
